Biography

Chris E. Freise, MD, is Associate Professor of Surgery in Residence at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where he also fulfilled the requirements for his internship and residency in General Surgery. Dr Freise completed a transplantation fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.    

Dr Freise is a member of several surgical and scientific organizations, including The Transplantation Society, the International Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association, the Transplant Infectious Disease Society, the American Hepato-Pancreato-Billiary Association and the Society of University Surgeons. In addition, he recently served as the Medical Director for California Transplant Donor Network. He is currently the Associate Councilor for UNOS Region 5, and a member of the UNOS Membership and Professional Standards Committee.

Dr. Freise  is the author of more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 5 book chapters.  He is a dynamic researcher and clinical educator. His basic science research program examines the delivery of immunosuppressive agents to organ allografts, ischemia reperfusion injury, methods to improve organ function in deceased donors, and he is involved in a multicenter trial investigating donor and recipient outcomes following living donor liver transplantation. In addition to his clinical teaching responsibilities, Dr Freise is a sought after speaker who has presented his work at many international and national conferences.
